KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) now offers a paperback option. Kindle also handles createspace.com, which is a service to get a paperback option. Since the KDP paperback system is fairly new, I decided (after reading a bunch of reviews) that I would go through createspace to publish my paperback book.
Just like KDP, I entered all my tax information and started to format my book. At first, my issue was margins. I could not get the right margin in a PDF file for a 6x9′’ book. Gee! More issues. So, I started to look around and I found a TEMPLATE! Yes! Right there on createspace in tiny letters there’s a link to a template. I used it. It took a while. But I followed the format as it suggested and the final product was beautiful. It took over a day for my book to be approved for printing. Oh, and I had to approve a proof, which you can either order physically or with a download (or you can use this online flash thing that didn’t really work for me. Too slow). At the end my book will be sold as a paperback for $13.99. Too expensive, I know… but some people do prefer paperback. Now, I’ve thought about buying some (I do get a discount) and going to my Half Price Books and offer it to people. I saw someone doing that the other day. Or perhaps I’m too shy, introverted, low self-esteemed person. I don’t know yet. Just in case you want to check it out: https://www.createspace.com/6965590 cheers!

I finally published something. After 18 years of wanting to do it and telling people I was going to do it… I did.
Now, nobody knows I did yet. Except if you are subscribed to this blog, of course (and my family). So, my goal now is to market my book without intruding in other people’s lives. If only it were easy. So, I will talk a little about KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing). The first thing I did was create an account on KDP (which is the same one you use to purchase on Kindle). I filled out all of the Tax info, got approved for it and then… the adventure began. I write in Word and the first page on the “Guided Tutorial”, or whatever it’s called, included a list of downloads to transform your book into the correct Kindle Format. First of all, I couldn’t open the file. Then I discovered you have to do it on the “Terminal” (I own a Mac). And then… looking around I discovered it was better to edit a html file and then drag it to the previewer. I did that. Took forever every time I dragged and dropped. And then I started to realize the format was all wrong. I needed the title and chapter titles to be centered vertically. And so I google “how to center vertically on Word” and I found out how to do it. At some point, though, I made a mistake and selected the entire file and so the last page of each chapter centered vertically. To fix this, I only made it worse by selecting that chunk of text and centering Top… this only split my text and would NOT get back together. So, I took the html again and redid it. By then, I discovered that I didn’t need any special format. Word was good. Goodness, had I but known! The endeavor took ages! I finally got what I wanted and I published the content. And then I saw a mistake and I uploaded the content again… and then I saw another mistake and… hopefully you get the point. Now, every time you upload the file it takes HOURS to get approved… *sigh*. Yes, I used a lot of my time uploading content to a website. I kind of understand publishers now… imagine what I went through but with millions of printed copies. I admire publishers. I still wish they would publish my story ;) cheers! I have revamped my website:
www.claudiasilva.net You can now find three sections, 1. A link to my TpT store, where I sell my productos for grade K-3 2. A link to my new “Author” page, where I have links to my new book (and future books), as well as this blog and a small N.A.V.S.A. section. 3. A link to Devianart in case you want to see my art. Neat! After finally having published N.A.V.S.A.’s first story, my writer’s block is gone and are now ready to start editing Part 2: Werewolf Phenomenon.
Can’t wait to introduce werewolves to the N.A.V.S.A. universe and hopefully other stories, too! :D cheers! After 18 years, I have finally published the first story in the N.A.V.S.A series. Once called “Genesis”, finally published as “The Recruit”.
Read the how Rebecca Sawyer becomes part of a world she never thought existed in her introduction to the North American Vampire Secret Agency: N.A.V.S.A. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XB4FFGB cheers! Yes, Breath of the Wild is here... and I am a fan.
Ran to Target after attending an assembly at the kids' school. Got the Switch and Special Edition Zelda Breath of the Wild (they had 2 left). There was a line, but I made it. I didn't preorder it and I got it. Bragging? Possibly! :) I have moved my blog from Tumblr to Weebly. I began to think that I need people to know about my books in order for me to be known in the world as a writer.
Writing is one of my passions and I would love to be able to keep doing it forever! Enjoy my blog and thank you for taking a chance with my work. cheers! |
